DJ Klem real/full name is Clement Kponu, Born late 80s,based in Lagos state. Is a Nigerian Deejay, singer, song writer and music producer. he should be known as one of the hottest producers right now along with Don Jazzy & Cobhams. DJ Klem obtained his first degree on Electrical/Electronic
Engineering from University of Ibadan. In 1998 as a teenager, he started his journey into music production, and by 2004,
while still in university, he’d built himself a reputation as the go-to
producer and remixer in Ibadan.
Starting out with drum lessons (which he never actually finished), his
love for music started at an early age with singing every song (and
every Ad) on the radio and the inevitable children’s choir in church. He
quickly started to pick interest in the keyboard and essentially taught
himself how to play(with a few pointers here and there of course).
after, the vocalist in him emerged in the guise of the Christian
singing group “turning point” which he joined in the late 90’s (yeah,
it’s been that long) quickly rising to the “office”of “producer”. In
2002, college came calling and he was admitted into the prestigious
University of Ibadan to study Electrical Engineering. It was there that
he discovered the world of computer based production and immediately
started schooling himself on that.
A few years later he hooked up with
Nigerian producer Alexander Yangs to form the production duo Beatworx
and they went on to produce music for the likes of Freestyle, Kel,
Jethro and TV station Soundcity.
KLEM now works as an
independent producer and is part of the infamous Knighthouse team in
Lagos, Nigeria. With recent songs produced for some of Nigeria’s finest
artists including Mode 9, Mo’Cheddah, Rooftop MC’s, VECtor, EVA and
Wizkid on the Knighthouse Street Scriptures Vol. 1 as well as upcoming
releases for a plethora of others, his star is only just beginning to
He was one of the 60 talented musicians and creative minds at the
Red Bull Music Academy in London in February 2010. These days, he keeps
himself busy back home at Knighthouse while finishing plans to launch
his new imprint “Afrotronikk“.
Red Bull Music Academy
He’s an alumnus of the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy (Class of London 2010) and has performed as a DJ/Re-mixer on redbull music academy stages in London, Lagos and Abuja. As a remixer, his “Gangnam style/Get High” mashup has become one of the most played remixes on Nigerian radio and he is constantly being sought after as a remixer. His “NoDecks” DJ mix
