Sade is a Nigerian born singer and songwriter born on 16 January 1959 in Ibadan, Oyo state as Helen Folasade Adu to a Nigerian father and an English mother. She grew up in London and was first signed with Epic Records where she recorded her first album, Diamond Life, in 1984. One of the singles of her album Smooth Operator helped her win Best New Artist Grammy. In 1989, Sade got married to Spanish filmmaker Carlos Scola, but they divorced in 1992. Later, in 1996, she had a daughter with Jamaican record producer Bobby Morgan.
