Wanda Baloyi is a South African-Mozambican singer, songwriter, DJ, and fashion designer known for her distinctive blend of Afro-soul, R&B, jazz, and house music. Born on May 6, 1980, in Johannesburg to Mozambican parents, she inherited her musical talent from her father, Jaco Maria, the lead singer of the 1980s band Ozila.
Career
Baloyi began her music career in high school as the lead vocalist of the all-girl group Ghetto Luv. In 2001, she gained further recognition through her collaboration with Thembi Seete on the song “Sure Ntombazana,” featured on the soundtrack of the popular TV series Yizo Yizo 2. Her debut solo album, Voices (2003), produced by jazz guitarist Jimmy Dludlu, earned her a KORA Award for Best African Arrangement in 2004, along with nominations for two South African Music Awards (SAMAs) and a Channel O Music Video Award.
From Mybiohub team research, we found out that she was a member of the kwaito quartet Ghetto Luv, an all-girls group that was popular for their wild street attitude and skimpy, sexy outfits. In 2005, she released her second album titled So Amazing.

She followed up with the albums So Amazing (2006) and Colours (2009), showcasing her evolving musical style. After a three-year hiatus, Baloyi returned with Love & Life (2013), a deeply personal album produced in collaboration with singer-songwriter Kabomo. The project, which blends soul, R&B, and hip-hop, features notable collaborations with artists like Judith Sephuma and Solo.
Wanda Baloyi has explored other creative avenues. She adopted the DJ persona “Queen Choco,” performing house music sets that reflect her diverse musical influences. Additionally, she launched her fashion line, Wanda Wear Fashion, which held its first pop-up event in November 2024, showcasing her latest summer collection.
Awards
Baloyi won KORA Award for Best African Arrangement 2004, along with two SAMA nominations and a Channel O music video nomination 2005 and 2006. Her date of birth will be added once confirmed.
