Nana Gbewonyo is a native of Sylmar, California, she was born on 11 December, 1980. He played high school basketball at Kennedy High. He began his college career at College of the Canyons, Califonia, where he earned All-Western State Conference honors and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player as a sophomore in the 2000-01 season. He averaged 21 points and eight rebounds that season.
He was transferred to Washburn, (Kansas) University. He later moved to Henderson (Ark) State University for his senior season.
