Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim born 25 January, 1927 in the middle-class district of Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro. Jobim was married to Thereza Otero Hermanny on 15 October, 1949 and had two children with her. He was also known as Tom Jobim, was a Brazilian composer, pianist, songwriter, arranger and singer. Widely considered as one of the great exponents of Brazilian music, Jobim is the artist who internationalized Bossa Nova and, with the help of important American artists, merged it with jazz to standardize in the 1960s a new sound whose popular success was very remarkable.
In 1965 his album Getz/Gilberto was the first jazz album to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. It also won for Best Jazz Instrumental Album – Individual or Group and for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
Antônio is widely regarded as one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century. Many of Jobim’s songs are jazz standards.
He died of cardiac arrest which was traced to be his fault for delaying a medical recommendation thus paving for the said cardiac arrest that took his life on 8 December, 1994.
