Nataniël le Roux was born on 30 August, 1962 in Grahamstown. He is referred simply as Nataniël, is a South African singer, songwriter, author, entertainer and entrepreneur. He launched his career in 1987 with the release of his first single, Maybe Time. Since then he has released 16 albums, staged more than 70 original theatre productions and published 15 books. He manages a company specialising in lifestyle goods called Kaalkop, which means “bald” in Afrikaans, but implies “honest” or “unpretentious”. He hosted Die Nataniel Tafel, a cooking and entertainment program, on kykNET from 2012 to 2014.
He was a concert pianist and musical director and started singing after about three years. Due to some disappointing circumstances from his associates, he started his own record label and publishing house, Nataniël House of Music. He then proceeded to build a cult following and his stage performances were almost always sold out. He produces more than two stage productions per year on average and has on occasion performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Two of his operas as well as several other compositions were performed and recorded by the Stellenbosch Conservatorium.
Due to his love of the colour white, De Leeuw Roses Bronkhorstspruit named a new white rose variety that they created after him.
Among his awards and accomplishments are; Best Debut Work (Stellenbosch 2010 National Arts Festival): The text of “Swanemeer: Die ware verhaal” which was performed at the festival.
“Afrikaans Onbeperk-prys vir vernuwende denke” (The Klein Karoo Nasional Arts Festival 2014) awarded for groundbreaking and refreshing works.
