Ghanaian Female gospel singer Obaapa Christy gospel will be best described Ghana’s Queen of praise
and worship. She was Nominated GOSPEL ARTISTE OF THE YEAR at Ghana music award UK 2016
Obaapa Christy is perhaps best described as Ghana’s Queen of praise
and worship. Her incredibly deep voice and uniquely hoarse tone combine
to bring out a dynamic sound out of this sensational musician. In recent
times, she has had more hits than any other gospel artist and is well
on her way to becoming an icon of the genre. During a visit to a church
one day, the popular songwriter/composer/singer, Osuani Afrifa, spotted
her and invited her to help him produce a music album by singing some
songs he had written and composed. This is how the Gospel diva was
brought to the lime light with her hit album“Me ma mani so” (Holy Ghost
International).
The gospel diva was born in Kumasi as Christiana Twene to Mr Akwasi
Twene the father who is also a musician and he was part of the K.Gyasi
Band in the early 70’s as a Lead Vocalist. and Madam Mary Twene. Obaapa
Christy has three sons.
Obaapa Christy has gained popularity with Ghanaians after releasing back to
back hit albums. Her songs include, ‘Onyame Ba’, ‘Mete Ase’, ‘yadee ye
ya’, ‘oko yi’, mesu afre Onyame, back to the sender, ‘woa na waye’ and
more. She has nine albums in her bag with each album hosting over nine
songs and her new album “hyebre sesafo” is already set to become a
success reigning in most gospel charts in the country. She has won
several awards for her motivational and spiritually uplifting songs
including Ghana Music Award, Royal Awards and a National Award honours
including a National Honour confered on her by the then President John
Agyekum Kuffour .
Obaapa Christy has touched several lives and her songs have become everyday
songs in Churches and among the Christian Community. She has also caught
public eye with her unique style of fashion and her incredible smile.
