Yvonne Chaka Chaka is one of the most famous South African artistes that is internationally known. Born in 1965 in Dobsonville Soweto as Yvonne Machaka, she is a singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, humanitarian and teacher. Following her amazing talent, she got the nickname Princess of Africa.
While growing up she lost her father at the age of 11, this made her mother to raise her and siblings alone which wasn’t an easy experience. In 1984, at the age of 19, Yvonne started her singing career and as a young performer Yvonne was the first Black child to appear on South African television in 1981. Since then, she has shared the stage with persons such as Bono, Angelique Kidjo, Annie Lennox, Youssou N’Dour, the classic rock band Queen and South Africans Johnny Clegg, Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela, to name a few. She has performed for HRM Queen Elizabeth II, US President Bill Clinton, South African President Thabo Mbeki and a host of other world leaders.
