Denis Sassou Nguesso is the president of the Republic of the Congo starting from 25 October 1997 and was the president from from 1979 to 1992. He was born on 23 November 1943 and in 1960 he joined the army although his early political career was filled with many struggles mostly military coup. Denis first rule wasn’t all that easy as pressure from the international community stripped him of executive powers in 1991 and finally in 1992 an election was conducted in which he contested but he failed.

His country’s second civil power brought him back to power because his rebel forces defeated President Pascal Lissouba. Sassou won the 2002, 2009 and 2016 general elections.
