Avashnee Vandiar Biography

The beautiful Avashnee Vandiar, a TV and Radio Presenter, Actress and Dancer that works with SABC; DSTV has presented alongside Maps Maponyane and various other media personalities in SA. This amazing woman haven’t only built her career in South Africa but has traveled and worked abroad in China (CCTV) and other places. Now here’s her complete biography;

Avashnee Vandiar is a 29 year old Media Personality who has been
recognized for her work in the media, performing arts and acting industries
respectively. From South Africa to the World, she is known for her vivacious
personality and knowledge in the entertainment/lifestyle market; Avashnee is an
example that young girls from small towns can achieve and accomplish dreams
with hard work and perseverance.  She is
a professional dancer and actress (with 4 movies under her belt); she has won
awards for her work as a TV Presenter who has presented alongside stalwarts
like Peter Stemmet (Al Jazeera)and Chantal
Rutter Dros (Former Carte Blanche Journalist And Prime News Anchor). Avashnee
has worked as a Journalist; entertainment and news reporter and Anchored a
total number of 5 Shows and featured on 9 as a Presenter or Producer. She’s
also worked as a Radio presenter on SABC’s LotusFM and Hot91.9FM.  A budding entrepreneur; Avashnee started a
company called “Oyster Media House” to connect media talent with production
houses and help others achieve their dreams. Her business idea was selected as
one of 8 small businesses to win a Harvard Business School Scholarship (KUA
Program) which she completed in 2016. She was then offered an international
position to train and host workshops in China and other East Asian countries
for the past year. She has simultaneously also done media projects and work
with CCTV and other media companies internationally.
Avashnee achieved academically as an A student, occupied leadership
roles and in University represented KZN as a finalist for the International
L’Oreal Brandstorm challenge. Despite many academic highlights, Avashnee knew
that performing arts and broadcast media is what she was truly passionate
about. The Professional Indian dancer may seem to be new in the scene but has
worked extremely hard throughout the years to hone her skills and talents as a
TV and Radio Host, Actress, Dancer, Producer and budding Entrepreneur.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree majoring in
Marketing; Media and Communications at the University of KZN, the ambitious
Entertainment Presenter/Producer moved to Johannesburg to pursue her dreams in
the media industry. Avashnee won the Miss Asia pageant in 2006 and was selected
as a finalist for the infamous Miss Bollywood IPL pageant. The pageant was the
brainchild of Francois Pienaar and aired live on MNET. The talented Presenter
also shared the stage with iconic singer, AKON. She was the principal dancer
and the face on poster for various productions in Durban and Johannesburg and
participated in various dance and modelling shows which honed her skills in
performing arts.  She trained under
International choreographer, Shiamak Davar and modelled for International
designer Tarun Tahiliani. She acted in 4 local movies (released at the Durban
International Film Festival; national cinemas and DVD)

The ambitious and persistent lass eventually landed a full time job with
the SABC as a Producer and Presenter for the Prime time mid-morning daily show
on Lotus FM on a show called Life N Style. The show increased listenership and
launched an annual bootcamp which was extremely successful. The success of the
bootcamp ensured a cross content promotion between the Doctors Orders show and
Life N Style. Avashnee also got 2 listeners married for the first time onair
and reunited 2 sisters. She also produced and presented her own early morning
show which aired on Sundays between 3-7am on LotusFM called “The Morning
Makeover”. Whilst on radio she was successfully chosen to present a Weekly
entertainment and lifestyle show called “Star Attraction” on DSTV.

In October 2013; Avashnee joined Africa News Network as the Producer and Presenter for the daily Entertainment News show “Buzz”. Avashnee started as a Producer and Entertainment Reporter on the show and quickly moved on to Anchor the show and eventually Executive Produce as well. During her 3 years at the channel; she went on to co-host the popular show “I am South African” with Maps Maponyane; Anchor the Prime Entertainment News with stalwart Anchor Chantal Rutter Dros; and presented the prime weekend breakfast show interview slots “Vuka Weekend” (previously presented by Geri Rantselli). Avashnee also went on to Present the Bollywood entertainment show called “East N’ Style” making her the only presenter who presented on the highest number of shows simultaneously. All her shows were popular, credible shows.
In her career; Avashnee was voted best and most popular theatre MC at the Good Food and wine show in Durban which took place at the Durban ICC and she was also selected as one of the Top 2 best presenters of 6000 Presenters for the SABC – Metro FM Black Carpet Presenter Search. She also won the Best Presenter for the Sylbna Lifestyle Awards.
Avashnee has also been cast as the leading lady for a music video for the song entitled, “Shining Star” by Kinetic ft. O_So_T and has held Ambassador Positions for various brands and companies.
