David Oyetokunbo Oyelowo, a British-Nigerian actor and producer is well known for his role as Martin Luther King Jr. in the American biographical drama film Selma (2014). He was born on 1 April 1976 in Oxford, England, to Nigerian parents of Yoruba ethnicity, we can say he came into the world on April fools day (funny). Though he grew up in Tooting Bec that is located in London, but his family moved to Lagos, Nigeria when he was 6. At the age of fourteen, David came back to London with his parents and enrolled in theatre studies at City and Islington College, due to the advice from his teacher to become an actor, he went for a year course in an art foundation course, at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

In 1999, David began his stage career when he was offered a season with the Royal Shakespeare Company playing roles in Ben Jonson’s Volpone, as the title character in Oroonoko. Oyelowo has won many awards on the course of his career such as the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actor, Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actor in a Movie/Miniseries in 2014 and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture. David is married to actress Jessica Oyelowo and they have four children together.
