Dutch television and film actress Maryam Hassouni was born on September 21, 1985 to Alia and Abdelbaki Hassouni who are Moroccans but migrated to the Netherlands. Maryam was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She has a younger brother named Zakariya and a sister called Sarra.

She received her high school diploma in 2003 and then studied Museology until 2005. She also studied Law at the Free University in Amsterdam but failed the course.

She began her acting career in 2002 with the role of Dunya El-Beneni in the television series Dunya and Desi, which was nominated for an International Emmy Award for Children and Young People in 2004 and again in 2005.
In 2006 she won the International Emmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress for her role Laila al Gatawi in the 2005 Dutch TV film Offers. Maryam also starred in a short film Blondje (2006). In 2006 she featured in TV film Swink, She also played in the TV films Kicks (2007), Anna (2007), Manslaughter (2012), Soof (2013) and a host others.
