Johann Peter Rupert comes from a very wealthy family. He was born on June 1, 1950 as the eldest son of South African’s entrepreneur Anton Rupert and his wife Huberte. Johann is a billionaire and is among the top five richest South Africans and is well known as the chairman of the Swiss-based luxury-goods company Richemont as well as of the South Africa-based company Remgro.
Concerning his educational background, he attended Paul Roos Gymnasium and the University of Stellenbosch, studying economics and company law. Although he didn’t finish that course because he dropped out, but in 2004 the university awarded him an honorary doctorate in Economics.
Later in 2008, Rupert was awarded an honorary doctorate in Commerce from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. As of 2017, he has a net worth of 6.1 billion USD.
