Chikune real/full name is Colleen Tjikune, She was Born on 13 February 1992, she is a
female Afro-jazz musician from Namibia who is inspired by the musical
icons of yesteryear, including Etta James. Best Female Central Africa AFRIMMA AWARD 2016 winner
Early Life And Career
Colleen Tjikune is a vocalist in the afrojazz genre. Colleen goes by the stage name of ‘Chikune’, a name derived from her surname, which amplifies her African roots.Born 13 February 1992 ,Chikune is of herero native.
At the tender age of 6 Chikune would sing at church and at home. Being
extremely passionate about music in 2012, Chikune took part in various singing competitions. The
competitions earned her a ticket to compete at the World Championships
of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Los Angeles, USA, where she was named
Senior Vocalist of the Year. Apart from the title, Chikune won a demo
recording courtesy of Indasoul Music Productions in LA. She participated
in another talent competition and landed a role in musical theatre, an
opportunity to explore another talent– acting.
In 2014, Chikune signed a contract with Ogopa Butterfly and made an
impact with her live performance at the Namibia Annual Music Awards
(NAMAs) in Swakopmund. Her single ‘Pumpkin’ was a hit, thanks in part to
its video.
Chikune’s talent came to stand
out significantly after taking part in various singing competitions and
ended up competing in LA, USA at the World Championships of the
Performing
Arts, which earned her the title of Senior Vocalist of
the World. As Part of the prizes of the competition Chikune received a
demo project with Indasoul Music Productions in LA, which is still to be
commercially released.
Determined to make a name she took part in
another talent competition which landed her a role in a Musical Theatre,
this opportunity unleashed another talent; acting. Chikune’ s dreams
were answered in 2014 January when she signed her contract with
Ogopa-butterfly. Chikune is currently in studio crafting a sound which
best represents her. With Her debut single “PUMPKIN” Chikune is ready
to challenge Namibia’s daring Music Industry!!!
