Bennet Ifeakandu Omalu was born in Nnokwa, Idemili South, Anambra in southeastern part of Nigeria, on 30 September, 1968. The family name, “Omalu” is a shortened form of the surname, Onyemalukwube, which translates to “He Who Knows, Speak. He attended University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he bagged his B.Sc in Medicine and MBBS- Surgery, in 1990. he is married to Prema Mutiso, blessed with two children Ashly and Mark, He is a Christian in the Catholic domination.
Bennet is a Nigerian-American physician, forensic pathologist, and Neuropathologist who was the first to discover and publish findings of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) in American football players while working at the Allegheny County Coroner’s Office in Pittsburgh.
Looking into his publications; Omalu published the book-Truth Doesn’t Have a Side: My Alarming Discovery about the Danger of Contact Sports was published in August 2017 by HarperCollins.
