Popular South African director and actor Obed Baloyi was born in 1970. He rose to fame in 2007 for his role as school taxi driver Prins in the fourth season of the SABC1 youth drama series Soul Buddyz. He began his acting career in 1987 as a student and then later in 1996 he formed Mangava Drama group and wrote the play Ga Mchangani.
That play was performed at the stage in the Market Theatre Laboratory 7th Community Festival and later at Zwakala Festival where it won a mainstream. Obed Baloyi has been a frequent cast member on the second season of the SABC1 drama series A Place Called Home, where he plays the role of Blues.
