Her name is Lala Tuku, a South African producer, vocal coach, actress, television presenter, director, and events entrepreneur. Over the years, she has achieved much in her career right from her teenage years.
Stepping into the first teenage year of her life was the begining of her journey into the movie and entertainment world. This is what she has to say;
“I was introduced to the arts at a very young age as a performer doing theatre. Back at that time we didn’t know that we could have a ‘career’in this industry so in my mom’s mind I was going to become a chartered accountant.”
Lala Tuku attended National School of the Arts where she studied drama, and majored in directing. Later she studied marketing and communications.
It was not an easy ride for her, because when she started her career in this field it was a male dominated industry with a handful of women. Apart from the gender aspect, she also faced the racial aspect, because the industry was also dominated with whites.
Due to all this challenges she went ahead and studied marketing and communications. With this qualification, she was able to open her marketing company known as Corporate Icons. The company is an African Creative Media and Consulting House that focuses on events.
As you can see, Lala Tuku is a woman of many talents, she’s a producer, actress, designer, mentor and businesswoman. She has worked so closely with SABC1 both as an actress (in their soapie Generations) and as a producer (in SABC1 celebrity gossip show The Real Goboza – 2009).
