Sho Madjozi whose real name is Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif is an Award-winning South African singer, songwriter, actress, and poet. She was born on May 9, 1992, in Shirley Village, Elim, Limpopo. She is the daughter of Rosemary Phaweni and Marc Wegerif who ran an NGO which was made to assist people with their land claims.
She attended the International School of Tanganyika in Tanzania after which she was offered a scholarship to Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA to study creative writing and African studies. While in the US, she started writing poems under the pen name of MayaThePoet.

Sho Madjozi returned to South Africa and studied at the University of South Africa, Johannesburg, while also writing songs for other local artists. From there, she began rapping and composing music under her stage name “Sho Madjozi”. She has performed in several big shows including the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 which was headlined by Beyonce and Jay-Z.
She rose to fame after her collaboration with rapper Okmalumkoolkat on the track “Ngiyashisa Bhe” and the hit single, “Gqi”. Currently, she is regarded as one of the best performers in Africa and has gained more than 955,000 Instagram followers.
In April 2017, Madjozi made her television appearance as one of the casts of Mzansi Magic drama telenovela Isithembiso as Tsakane Mboweni.
In 2019, Madjozi earned two wins at the 25th edition of South African Music Awards for Newcomer of the Year and for Best Female Album. She also received a BET Award for Best New International Act at the BET Awards 2019.
