Blacknation is a ground-up digital media group that produces a bi-monthly e-magazine, daily Youtube shows and ad-hoc web content. It was founded by brothers Andrew and Thulasizwe Simelane in 2012 with the aim of producing local content that would resonate with both urban and township youth.

Each of the brothers wear numerous different hats, with Andrew heading up the business side of things and Thulasizwe the creative. Some of the titles to Thulasizwe’s name include photographer, videographer, youth content director and producer, which is indicative of a new kind of young creative-entrepreneur hybrid, ready to take on whatever challenge needed to get things done.
Blacknation Video Network (BNVN) is a subsidiary of YouthContent Communications PTY, Ltd and an independent digital, and television production agency that produces #POPLITICAL content aimed at the Pan African Youth. The company is led by Andrew and Thulasizwe Simelane, and is a level 1 B-BBEE contributor that has a functional internship programme for students from film schools in Johannesburg, i.e. SABC TV School, AFDA, City Varsity, etc.
Over the past 6 years, YouthContent Communications has incubated more than 50 content producers and administration interns, and produced more than R 2,5 Million of content for the BlackNation Video Network, the YouYube platform.
This content includes a web-series, specials as well as entertainment studio shows. All the content is between 3-15 minutes, depending on the subject and relevancy. The content is mostly broadcast on mobile devices and laptop computers throughout Africa.
